Topic: Abstract Darkroom – Focus: Photogram
In this course, we will explore camera-less approaches to darkroom work, with a special focus on the technique of photograms. We will examine the position of the photogram within the history of photography and art, discuss related theories from the field of cultural studies. Based on this seemingly simple technique, we will experiment attempting to find expanding and experimental approaches that transform the photogram from the purely two-dimensional abstraction of an object into new visual spaces.
Advanced knowledge of analogue darkroom practice (film processing, positive processing) is a prerequisite for participation in the course as well as attendance at the 1st meeting.
Examination Modalities
Attendance at least 80%, active participation, work samples, participation in the final group discussion & reflexion
