2026S, Lecture with Practical Exercises (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04915

Description

This introductory course is aimed at beginners who want to explore textile screen printing as a creative and experimental process. It offers a hands-on approach to working with typography as a starting point for surface design, rhythm, and visual structure – without following a fixed layout.

Participants use typographic fragments collected from books, magazines, or urban environments to develop patterns and compositions through playful deconstruction, layering, and rearrangement.

Focus areas include:

  • How does composition evolve through repetition and chance?
  • How do color fields interact with textile structures?
  • What possibilities emerge when typography becomes form instead of language?

The course enables artistic reflection, technical skill-building in screen printing, and encourages personal expression across different fabric materials.

Examination Modalities

To receive ECTS credits, the following is required:

a.) All incurred material costs must be settled in full.
b.) At the end of the semester, please submit a digital project documentation via email to: stephanie.klaura@uni-ak.ac.at

Your documentation should include:
1 to 4 photos of the project combined in a PDF  (Name / Project Title / Short Description)

Assessment is based on the design concept, its artistic and technical realization through the screen printing process, as well as active participation and responsible use of workshop space and equipment.
