Description

Regenerative Design Lab x ReGenerativa

This semester, the Regenerative Design Lab is collaborating with the ReGenerativa platform. Using backcasting, a strategic planning method, a desirable future goal is defined, and from there, the necessary steps to achieve it are determined backward to the present. Unlike forecasting, which extrapolates current trends, backcasting is used for complex, long-term, or sustainable initiatives to identify the necessary measures for achieving a specific, often transformative, future scenario.

The Institute of Design Research Vienna and Vienna Design Week are project partners for the dissemination of the findings. A suitable presentation format for Vienna Design Week (September 25–October 4, 2026) will be developed as part of the course. Each participant's individual artistic background serves as the starting point for this transformative design research project.

Interventions and project support by:
Christoph Thun-Hohenstein, Artistic Director of ReGenerativa
Gabriel Roland, Director of Vienna Design Week
Ronja Grossar, Co-Chair of the Institute of Design Research Vienna
Nikolaj Schultz, Sociologist
NN, Input AI
