The summer term will focus on detail typography and type-design.

There will be lectures and exercises about the following topics:

– Terminology and Letter-Anatomy
– Parameters of type-design
– Analogue and digitale tools to draw and develop fonts
– Drawing letters
– Formal development of lettershapes (related to the usesd tools
– classifikation systems of typefaces
– Digital formats, OpenType Features, Unicode, EULA and licensing
– Spacing / Kerning / Whitespace
– Character set / glyphs palette

There will be shorter exercises as well as the main task:  The design of a typeface.

Students attending Verena’s course are encouraged to use the typeface  in her task.
