2026S, artistic Seminar (SEK), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S03062
Description
ORNAMENT NOW - AI, CRITICISM & CREATIVITY
An intensive seminar for radical patterns, textile technologies and critical discourse
What if ornaments don't just decorate, but provoke?
How do you design patterns that tell stories - with AI and microscopes?
This seminar is no ordinary course, but a laboratory for textile rebellion!
Here, traditional craftsmanship, digital tools and socio-critical questions merge.
What can you expect?
Digital textile alchemy: from digital cross-stitch to AI-generated ikat fabric -
experiment with tools that combine tradition and high-tech.
Patterns with a message: Design OpArt patterns and kaleidoscope ornaments that are not only beautiful, but also ask questions.
AI as co-creator: Discuss critically - but also use AI to design ornaments that go beyond familiar patterns.
Technology meets textiles:
Thermal imaging cameras as pattern generators
Visualizing personal movement patterns
Pattern in Motion (Iscan as a creative tool)
Scaling microscopic structures into monumental repeats
A critical reflection:
How AI and automation are changing textile craftsmanship
Workshop for experimental test prints
Preparing designs for screen printing, digital textile printing and wallpaper
Textiles meets technology:
Exclusive insights at the Institute of Textile Technology (FieldTrip)
Who for?
Art and design students who want to hack traditional techniques.
Anyone who not only makes patterns, but thinks with them.
PS: Bring your sketches, laptop and the desire to break the rules. From me comes know-how, algorithms, microscopes and controversial discussions.
