Institute of Art and Technology, Life Drawing
2026S, Lecture with Practical Exercises (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S02691

Description

The life drawing course offers scope for both a traditional and an experimental approach to the topic; the realisation can range from a realistic representation to abstraction. The students choose their own approach according to their wishes and goals, possibly also in connection with their own studies (e.g. simplification of the human form for an animated film)

Basic skills in relation to capturing, analysing and depicting a human figure are to be acquired in the course. Design principles (page layout, image composition, spatial representation, etc.) are taught. Students with solid prior knowledge have the opportunity to experiment freely and informally in this course.

The level of support depends on the performance level and individual objectives of each student.

Aim of the course:

Depending on the objectives of the individual students, basic drawing skills and/or the further development of these should be developed in the course. Innovative ideas should be pursued and deepened.

Examination Modalities

20 pieces of work produced in the act room during the semester will be assessed. The criteria for grading depend on the type of work submitted.

-realistic life drawing: proportion, grasp of spatiality, pictorial division, overall design, individual progress over the course of the semester.

-free interpretation up to abstraction: originality and individuality in the pictorial invention, composition, division of the sheet, choice of means.
