2026S, scientific seminar (SEW), 4.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S01889
Description
The course will continue with the research topic of the previous term. A collection of analyses and climate change adaptation strategies, developed over the course of the year, will be part of a publication.
Special Topics in Architecture Design
Organized as an experimental studio, the program centers around questions of climate change and its interactions with the built environment. Against this backdrop students investigate the designer’s agency and translate climate science and environmental research into architectural concepts, while activating environmental sensibilities. Stepping back from the immediacy of solving problems we rather work with the dynamics in play.
Unstable Grounds & Fluid Environments
This term the programcontinues with the focus on Unstable Grounds and Fluid Environments investigating instabilities and extreme environments not as a backdrop but rather as agent in the narrative. In the face of un-precedented change, characterized by extreme weather events, social and political disruption, and rapid technological advancements, the studio envisions potential futures for our communities. It serves as a laboratory for design research exploring instabilities rather than static conditions. Projects will embrace those fluid environments aiming at producing new knowledge that can be translated to diverse contemporary contexts. Flooding, extreme cold or heat, high pollution, and alpine risk zones are test beds for an architectural design to be developed.
