Energy Design B
Brian Cody
Institute of Architecture , Energy Design
2026S, scientific seminar (SEW), 3.0 ECTS, 4.0 semester hours, course number S01874
Description
Based on your research, we will discuss the environmental impact - positive and negative - of your design from your earliest conceptual ideas. Together, we will develop your concepts to bring together design excellence and a sustainable construction strategy. Any idea goes: from passive strategies of how to re-use any amount of energy, material or component in a building to energy producing algae farms you can live in. Interactive strategies are as much welcome as precise optimization of intelligently populated building envelopes. The core of the considerations is the energy balance of the built environment over its entire life cycle.
Examination Modalities
This semester, we will begin by introducing the Ladybug and Honeybee toolsets, along with several other computational tools. Attendance and active use of these tools are mandatory. The task will be broken down to fragments that can be well investigated by the introduced tools.
You can work in groups up to 3 students, so that you can share workload.
There are 4 obligatory meetings with Prof. Cody and in between Desk Crits with Bernhard Sommer.
By the end of the semester, you present a conceptual design that focuses on the energy and ecological questions.
