Institute of Fine Arts and Media Art, Digital Arts
2025W, Künstl. Einzelunterricht (KE), 19.0 ECTS, 6.0 semester hours, course number S40687

Description

This ZKF is not merely an introduction for first-semester students; it is an initiation into the conditions of artistic production within a techno-social environment. It begins with a block from October 2 to October 6 at the Commons Hub in Hirschwang, a retreat into a peripheral zone where students and staff inhabit a collective time-space. Here, the university temporarily de-institutionalizes itself in order to reflect on its own infrastructures: the forest as studio, the commons as curriculum, the outside as the true inside.

After this displacement, the rhythm of the semester unfolds in weekly gatherings. Every Thursday, a different member of the Digitale Kunst staff assumes responsibility, guiding students into exhibitions, laboratories, or hidden geographies of the university. This rotation produces a polyphonic cartography of the department: each voice adds a fragment, each perspective shifts the coordinates, until the map no longer resembles orientation but rather disorientation — the productive confusion from which artistic subjectivity emerges.

The ZKF thus functions not as a catalogue of tools, but as a performative system in which students encounter the multiplicity of practices, media, and epistemologies that constitute Digitale Kunst. What is offered is not mastery, but access; not a single method, but a spectrum of divergent strategies. It is a pedagogy of exposure, where the experience of circulation — through labs, through spaces, through voices — replaces the illusion of a fixed point of view.

Examination Modalities

Attendance and interaction in ZKF. We encourage students to focus less on production in this first winter semester, but rather on opening their minds for input and ideas.

Students are also welcome to attend the lecture series of the ZKF that starts at 14:00 every Thursday.
