Description
This semester, the first part of the course 'Umbau' – Adaption / Conversion / Remodeling / Transformation will be offered as part of the lecture series Design Issues.
The course consists of the following six lectures:
1. Introduction to Vienna, Clues to Urban Fabric and to Architectural Theory
2. Separation of Spaces
3. Relation to Body Measures
4. The Role of Structure
5. Design Process
6. Generation and Destruction of Form
Each lecture is accompanied by an exercise to be completed individually outside of class. These assignments are intended to deepen and reflect upon the lecture content.
Examination Modalities
Assessment is based on six assignments, each building on the content of the previous lecture, and to be submitted by the following session. The evaluation criteria include the quality of the work submitted, regular attendance, and active participation.
At the end of the seminar, there will be a final presentation. Each participant will briefly present their collected drawings from the semester, followed by a group discussion.
Comments
The number of places available for the exercises that lead to course credits is limited. The lecture itself is open to anyone who is interested and is particularly recommended for all architecture students.
The lectures will be held in English.
