2025W, artistic Seminar (SEK), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S05807
Description
Ecological crises demand urgent reflection and decisive action to reset humanity's role within more-than-human communities. This seminar builds on multispecies ethics and new animism to explore the complex relationships between humans, nonhuman life, and technology—examining how ecological awareness and storytelling evolve in our digital world.
Focusing on the intersections of digital technology, ecological imagination, and multispecies perception, the seminar critically analyzes how various life forms have been historically constructed and politically mediated within systems of knowledge production. Within this framework, nonhuman beings transcend reductive categorizations as threats, others or tools, and are instead recognized as ecological agents possessing diverse forms of agency, experience, and sensory capacity.
Participants will apply methods such as speculative science, digital ritual, and species memory, using game engines, AI generative tools, and 3D scanning to develop ecological narrative prototypes in virtual or physical contexts.
Examination Modalities
- Regular and engaged participation in seminar discussions
- Development of an ecological prototype (virtual or physical) in a format of choice (e.g. installation, interactive video, sound, speculative writing, or virtual environment), articulated in the participant’s own artistic or research language
- A written document or a mind map outlining the project’s concept, development process, and technical approach.
