2025W, artistic Seminar (SEK), 6.0 ECTS, 3.0 semester hours, course number S05641

Description

The prose workshop is aimed at students working on a literary prose project as part of their master’s thesis. The seminar offers a structured space for focused text work, collegial feedback, and in-depth reflection.

At the center is the presentation and joint discussion of an original text excerpt (novel, prose) in combination with an accompanying exposé. The aim is to refine the individual writing project in terms of its aesthetic, thematic, and formal direction and to gain new impulses for further development.

In addition, we will develop criteria for literary feedback, reflect on the challenges of writing, and discuss selected examples from contemporary literature as reference points. The language of instruction is German.

Examination Modalities

Regular and active participation (at least 80%)

Submission of a literary prose excerpt (either 2 × 25 pages or 1 × 50 pages)

Preparation of an accompanying exposé (1–2 pages): project description, key questions, writing goals, relevant contexts

Active engagement in close reading sessions and feedback discussions

Revision or continuation of the project by the end of the semester

Comments

Participants will present their projects for discussion over the course of the semester. The text excerpt and exposé should be made available to all participants no later than two weeks before the scheduled presentation date.

The seminar is conceived as a protected workshop space. In addition to focused work on the texts, there is room for broader exchange about individual writing processes.

Complementary to the core work, I occasionally offer short writing and perception exercises designed to deepen the connection to one’s own language. These impulses are intended as an invitation to open up spaces of poetic attention beyond the purely textual work.
