2025W, Konversatorium (KO), 8.0 ECTS, 2.0 SemStd., LV-Nr. S05423
Beschreibung
This semester, the course is themed "The Games that Made You". Together, we will go on a journey through our memories of games that had a profound influence on our lives. By doing that, we will tackle a series of questions discussed by contemporary game studies: What makes a game impactful? What role does gameplay have, and what role do other factors, such as the social context, the space the game is played in, the discourses surrounding it etc. have? What role does personal experience and situated knowledge play in how we think and talk about games? How can we incorporate our own perspectives into writing about games?
You will have the chance to present the games that made you and apply those questions to your own experiences.
Prüfungsmodalitäten
Active participation and assignements. To get a certificate, you will have to participate in the discussions and submit a "memory album" in which you record your personal answers to the questions discussed in the course (this will be in the form of regular assignements).
Anmerkungen
We will also have two play sessions which will be scheduled by agreement.
There will be an exchange between this class and the class by Max Moswitzer: Experimental Art Games and Hybrid Ludic Objects (LV-Nr. S04770). However, you don't have to participate in both classes to get a certificate.
