Description

Ego Collapse as Pedagogy

Unlearning Authorship in the Age of Artificial Imagination

This is not a course in mastering AI. It is a conceptual excavation of authorship, intention, and identity, an invitation to forget what it means to create under the illusion of control.

As generative systems replicate style, vision, and narrative with algorithmic fluency, this course positions time-based art as a critical site of inquiry, a medium through which authorship is destabilized, meaning fragmented, and subjectivity dispersed. AI is treated not as a tool but as a system of estrangement, one that facilitates the production of works through misalignment, emergence, and unpredictability.

Through a series of experimental provocations, participants engage in prompt writing, formal deconstruction, and aesthetic misuses to generate moving image works that disorient the boundaries between author and artifact. Machine-generated outputs, often referred to as “hallucinations,” are explored not as errors but as legitimate visual logic, opening space for artworks that resist legibility, authorship, and ownership.

Participants will develop an experimental moving image work that emerges not from mastery, but from surrender, an artifact shaped by instability, misalignment, and the aesthetics of unmaking.
