Beschreibung

Introduction to media theories is designed to provide a thorough exploration of media theory and the dynamics of mediatized environments, with the aim of critically assessing the influence of media narratives shaping daily social interactions. The course offers a thorough examination of the evolution of media theory and history, beginning with foundational concepts such as Plato’s allegory of the cave and extending to contemporary phenomena of digital cultures like internet memes. The first area of focus is media ecology, where participants will analyze the intricate interrelations between institutions, users, and technological assemblages. The second focus emphasizes critical perspectives, especially from posthumanism and feminist theory, while equipping students with the tools to acquire greater media literacy and critically examine power relations within media systems. The third focus will be on case studies such as film and game analyses.
