Scientific bachelor seminar for teacher education
Description
The seminar addresses current theories on manual drawing, and examines drawing by hand in times of digitalization. Politics and poetics open up a spectrum of didactics and practices for drawing, e.g., phantom or court drawings, children's drawings or drawings in an art education context.
Value and function of manual drawing will be examined theoretically as well as practically: From a theoretical point of view current studies on drawing will be presented and discussed. The seminar will include online discussions with selected experts on the topic. Discussions have already taken place with Gabriela Goldschmidt in 2018, Patricia Cain in 2019, Angela Brew in 2020 or Seymour Simmons in 2023, among others.
In a practical sense different settings out from drawing research will be tested. In practical terms this means, that we will enact special conditions while drawing: drawing out from memory, drawing while speaking, drawing by touching, or drawing blindfolded. The presented theories will be tested out and corroborated in each teaching unit.
The seminar addresses students who are interested on theory and practice of manual drawing. By reenacting empirical research settings behind the backdrop of our selected theories, the aim is to create a sense for manual drawing and its didactic value.
Many texts are available in english language. Literature will be announced in the initial period of the seminar.
