Design from Austria

Austria has a long tradition of design, which will be examined and discussed in this lecture/exercise in individual stories. The focus will be on individual protagonists, but also on techniques, regional traditions and companies that represent Austria's vibrant design culture. The lecture/seminar covers a wide range of topics, it begins with Adolf Loos and the Wiener Werkstätten and comes to the work of contemporary design studios such as EOOS and mischer'traxler. The expertixe of selected companies such as Lobmeyr will be part of the programm as well.

The lecture is designed as a block course and excursions and studio visits in Vienna are planned. Successful participation requires attendance at all sessions, participation in discussions and a 20-minute presentation on a predetermined topic. The topics will be assigned on 10 October.
