Description
The lecture offers an overview of the development of the so-called arts and crafts (applied arts/technical arts) from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, based on major works in various material groups (metal, wood, ceramics, glass, ivory, glyptics). Students should be given a basic understanding of relevant artistic, material and technical factors for the historical classification of objects as well as the scientific approach to the object (correct naming and descriptions, etc.).
Examination Modalities
Oral exam at the end of the semester.
Comments
The course will be conducted partly as a lecture at the institute and partly as an exercise in museum collections. The dates will be announced later. Students will be provided with a handout containing illustrations and information on the objects discussed, as well as a bibliography.
