Materialising Utopias: subversive Earth-beings! 

This course offers a theoretical exploration of marginal political, artistic, and aesthetic practices, with a focus on decolonial and Indigenous ecologies, intertwining these perspectives with genderqueer, feminist, and urban subversive interventions—both embodied and discursive—to challenge dominant frameworks of knowledge and power. By critically rethinking and decentering the concept of the “human,” the course recenters nature as an all-encompassing entity, recognising the interconnectedness of beyond-human lives in diverse landscapes, from the asphalt of urban spaces to the vastness of mountains and the depths of rainforests. Through this approach, students will engage with alternative epistemologies that resist colonial, patriarchal, and anthropocentric worldviews, fostering new ways of understanding and inhabiting the world through different methodologies.

It is expected that students will compose a concise essay in English or German that demonstrates a connection between the subjects addressed during the course. Furthermore, they must attend a minimum of 80% of the course.
