Description

Resources for Art and Research: What Makes a Project Successful?

This course is all about your ideas and the resources you'll need to turn them into future research projects, with a specific focus on artistic research as a unique perspective.

We'll explore how an art university, through artistic, scientific and interdisciplinary research, can bring something truly special to the academic world—shaping new understandings and redefining the role of universities in driving meaningful change.

The course will guide you through the essentials of research, especially when it comes to finding the right resources for your ideas and projects. You'll learn how to craft compelling proposals and present your ideas in a way that resonates with others, not just yourself. We'll concentrate on developing proposals within Austria's scientific and artistic research landscape, particularly to artistic research and the PEEK programme.

The course will be held in German or English, depending on the composition of the group of participants.

Comments

This course will grow and adapt based on your ideas, unfolding over four key sessions on specific dates.

UNIT 1: RESEARCH AT THE ART UNIVERSITY

What makes research at the Angewandte unique? In this introductory session, we'll get to know each other, share our interests, experiences, and perspectives, and discuss our research backgrounds and degree programmes. We’ll explore the Angewandte as a dynamic research hub, highlighting its distinctive qualities and some of the exciting funded projects underway. I’ll also outline the great opportunities available within the university and the conditions for accessing them.

UNIT 2: DEFINING CONTEXTS

In this session, you’re invited to present your specific ideas, which we’ll discuss together. We’ll look at the broader context of art and research funding, both internationally and within Europe and Austria. We’ll dive deeper into the work of funding bodies, identify a model funding programme, and explore the use of templates, structuring, and resource distribution. We’ll also review the current status of your concepts.

UNIT 3: REVIEWING IDEAS

Here, we’ll focus on refining your proposals and the review process. You’ll present the current state of your proposals, and we’ll address any challenges you’ve encountered while developing your concepts.

UNIT 4: SUGGESTING DECISIONS

In our final session, we’ll discuss and review your proposals. Please bring printed copies to the meeting. We’ll work together to refine them, possibly determine a focus, and discuss the next steps for using the material you’ve developed.
