Description
What the growing city of Vienna is eating, has an immense impact on our agriculture, environment and common future. In view of the climate crisis, the Feldversuche collective invites to an artistic-critical examination of the field ‘agriculture - food - city’ and takes the artistic process out of the studios and workshops and onto the fields and paddocks of the sociocratically run community farm of Kleine Stadtfarm in Vienna's 22nd district. During an intensive week on site, we will explore questions of food production, agriculture, urban development and nature conservation, learn from each other, put our hands in the warm compost, cook and eat together. The aim is to develop during these 3 days smaller (or larger) artistic works during the week, questioning the complex relationships between urban centres, the periphery and rural landscapes and exploring the site of the Kleine Stadtfarm.

The Feldversuche art symposium has been taking place every summer in Vienna's 22nd district since 2021. For almost three weeks, artists are invited to live on the communal courtyard of the Kleine Stadtfarm, to exchange ideas with each other and with the local initiatives, to see the community farm in its historical and socio-economic context, and ultimately to initiate creative processes. The artworks created during this period are presented to the general public at a finissage at the community farm and in a publication.
Located between the Donauauen National Park, agricultural land and new urban development areas, around 20 socio-ecological initiatives come together at the Kleine Stadtfarm: Community gardens in various shapes and sizes, puppet theatre, agricultural social and educational projects, animal-assisted education, carpentry, workshops, mushroom cultivation, a farm shop and a café.
