2025S, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S05067

Description

This class will focus on historical methods of electronic music composition and performance through a contemporary lens. We will study synthesis in depth, and the development of early analog modular synthesizers, while learning how these techniques have influenced contemporary synthesizer design. While the class will focus on making music, students will be expected to learn how to use VCV Rack, and Madrona Labs software. Within the frame of this class, we will begin to look at modular mentalities outside of music as well, thinking about how concepts of modulation and interconnectivity might apply to installation of art works.
