Im Mai findet die Intensivphase zusammen mit allen Studierenden in der Festivalzentrale der Wiener Festwochen im ORF Funkhaus statt. *Bitte tragen Sie sich sowohl im Seminar "Kurzprosa" als auch in "Kurzprosa Erweiterung" ein! Im Verlauf des Semesters wird die Vergabe der ECTS je nach Arbeitsaufwand erklärt*  

Our Republics are making Love: Austria, Croatia and Serbia!

Yes, we know, we’ve had that already, a history of unity – under the Austrian crown. Ha! Well, that failed!

And yes, we know, we’ve had a socialist utopia of love… well, you know what happened to that one! 

And yes, we know, we’ve had far too many nationalist awakenings in between. We promise, we’ve talked about those, we`ve cried, we`ve lost. And we’ll continue to talk, frown, shake our heads, demonstrate, because this IS NOT OVER!

Due to this, let us try something utopian, let us create an imagniative alternative and please...

Give us a break! Just for this occasion, be so kind! You! Close your eyes, take a deep breath and imagine it just for a second: 

Today, and just today, we share this space of love without being stifled by the shared history of our republics! Maybe we’ll even be inspired by it to think further. 

Love doesn’t always have to hurt.

We, the students of the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb and the Faculty of Dramatic Art in Belgrade come together with students from the Institutes of Language Arts and Social Design of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the “Angewandte”, as you’d call her, to revitalize the festival center and get back to what is asked of us: the L.O.V.E!

Our designers will construct a stage on which our writers, dramaturgists and directors will play around with their ideas of a Republic of Love in 5-7 mixed-republic groups of 3-4 students, exploding into performances and mini-plays.

Each group will develop their own form of dealing with the questions that arise when these specific people with their specific histories and their specific backgrounds come together to present a generational vision of a Republic of Love!

The groups will be hosted at the festival centre in the first week of the Festwochen. Before that, the “teachers”, Tanja Šljivar, Goran Ferčec and Nastasja Penzar, will meet up multiple times with all students online, discuss the possibilities of the topic, think of the field of work, pair them in groups and tutor them through the process of conceptualizing their “mini dramas/performances/actions” throughout march, april and may. 

Very international. Very intersectional. Very generational? We love that, don`t we?

Finally, during the preparations of our plays, we will spend our days on-site, responding spontaneously to the space: writing, reading, conversing, planning, interacting with the public and ultimately: performing.
