Practices - Intervention/ Participation (Introduction): 2.0 sem. hrs.

Dates: Wed, 10:00-12:30 (1st date: 12.03.2025)

The seminar and workshop  will focus in particular on topics of the EU project "SPACEX - Spatial Practices in Art and Architecture for Empathetic Exchange" (https://www.spacex-rise.org/), in which the Angewandte (under the direction of Barbara Holub) is a partner. On October 24, 2025, 17:00-20:00, a "Townhall Event" will take place in the Angewandte Innovation Lab at the end of SPACEX, which we will prepare during the seminar and workshops. Based on the performative exercises/interventions already produced in the winter semester 2024/25) we will discuss which/ in what form/ for what purpose they should be further developed for the design and conception of the Townhall Event; in addition, we will develop new artistic concepts and exercises - and possibly develop a small performance for the Townhall Event.

We are particularly interested in the following questions:

What performative/artistic formats can we develop for the AIL to communicate selected results and knowledge that SPACEX has produced? How does artistic research relate to artistic intervention? How do we want to shape the relationship between "authors" and audience? The seminar and workshop are closely intertwined. The special dates for the workshop are designed as intensive phases where concepts are tried out together and materials are produced. The exact procedure will be discussed together.

Special guests + collaborations with:

Jitka Hlaváčková (curator, GHMP/ Prague City Gallery, Prague) and Susanne Prinz (director of the Kunstverein am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz/ Berlin) are partners of SPACEX and will be guests in the seminar and workshop as part of their residency at the Angewandte (more information to follow).
Lucie Strecker (Angewandte Performance Lab): The course takes place in cooperation with Lucie Strecker and her students, who will give an input on "breathing, listening, voices" on 2 dates (info to follow).

Active participation in the seminar and the workshop, as well as production of "materials" for the Townhall Event:

_Discussion on "empathetic exchange"
Conception and testing of performative exercises/interventions in preparation for the Townhall Event for SPACEX with performative aspects of "empathetic exchange"
_Drawings and sketches
_Preparation of elements/materials for the Townhall Event on 24.10.2025 (and participation if possible)
Documentation of the project
The skills will be taught in the course.

Concluding discussion + presentation:
The students will show the interventions and concepts for "empathetic exchange" for the Townhall Event in the final presentation in VOZ 7.

Anrechenbar: für Studienfach KKP (Bachelor), sowie für andere Studienfächer: Seminar (Bachelor), 2 ECTS; Workshop, 1 ECTS

The course is designed for students of KKP, but open to all students - especially to exchange ideas and learn from each other in a transdisciplinary way. It takes place in cooperation with the courses of Lucie Strecker (APL) (more information will follow). Students are invited to actively participate in the Townhall Event on Oct.24, 2025, and to exchange with the international network of SPACEX.
