The course is aimed at students who are interested in a natural representation of the human body. Knowledge is imparted that should help to capture the model in its posture and position in space and to realise it on paper. Basic questions of image design (spatial organisation, choice of media, etc.) are discussed. The study of human proportions, expression, facial expressions and gestures are central topics of the course. Basic anatomical knowledge can be taught if required.

Students who wish to dedicate themselves to the subject of nature studies receive support in using drawing techniques to realistically depict details of the body (e.g. hand, foot, head) or the entire body. The traditional pencil drawing can be the medium of choice, but innovative, contemporary realisations and personal (new) interpretations of the theme of ‘nature study’ are also called for.

20 works produced in the Aktsaal during the semester will be assessed. Criteria for grading: proportion, grasp of spatiality, pictorial arrangement, overall design and individual progress over the course of the semester.
