Description
ATLAS OF HABITATS [A]FA LAB
The Atlas of Habitats is a growing digital platform that collects and visualizes data on animal habitats from unseen perspectives across West Africa and Europe. It fosters a playful process of discovery, revealing ecological and spatial interconnections that are invisible to the naked eye. By exploring these relationships, the project nurtures curiosity and cultivates a deeper understanding of the complex entanglements that shape habitats and life across species—offering a basis for imagining and designing shared spaces and environments of the future.
This year, students will create and interrelate digital twins of natural habitats and beyond-human avatars, leading to the design of “other” worlds - through sets, scenarios, and situations - that reflect the intricate interdependencies of all life forms. The lab project focuses on (seasonal) forest habitats in Austria and Poland, combining data collection for the Atlas of Habitats platform with individual research projects developed in response to the given brief.
