From the 20th century, especially since its second half, synthetic polymers have been widely used as binders and adhesives in conservation and restoration, as well as materials for modern works of art and paintings. Their properties very often not only determine the result of conservation measures, but often also the long-term behaviour of the treated objects.
Within the course, the students will be provided with the necessary current state of knowledge on the chemical composition, production, properties, aging behaviour and possible applications of organic synthetic binders.
The knowledge acquired should contribute to a better understanding and professional application of organic synthetic binders in the field of conservation-restoration of art and handicraft objects.
After completing the course, the knowledge of students will be evaluated in the form of the written test.
The lectures will take place in the lecture hall at Salzgries 14, 1st floor and will be held in German.
