Description

trans is booming: numerous publications and debates suggest an epistemological shift: in politics, theory and in the form of writing. Trans is also a prefix that frames numerous concepts: transculturality, transdisciplinarity, transnationality, transspecies, translation, transhumanism and many more (trans+). The Latin prefix trans stands for over, across, beyond, to the other side. It indicates movement. However, what underlies the prefix and its idea of transgression are principles and ideas of order, of boundaries, attributions, enclosures and binarisms. As early as 2016, a (German-language) anthology explored the connection between borders and transgressions. Now, almost a decade later, this seminar is once again dedicated to these questions, but inspired by the numerous recent publications (mostly but not exclusively in English) in academia, activism and literature that rethink trans.

Examination Modalities

Regular attendance and willingness to read intensively and participate in joint discussions are required. Examination modalities will be announced in the seminar.

Comments

The seminar will be held bilingually (English/German) - the prerequisite is a basic knowledge of both languages and a willingness to engage with this specific situation.
