2024W, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S05230

Description

Exchange, accumulate, reflect, produce, exhibit, dismantle.

We will focus on the Kunstraum Weikendorf (KOERNOE) - which has been showing site-specific contemporary positions in a small town in the Weinviertel region twice a year since 2007 - and all the artistic, social, political, amicable, resource-related, historical, speculative, bumpy, pleasurable, ... connecting lines it draws - and that we want to explore. We will meet artists who have already exhibited there, local chroniclers, employers, association members, gardeners and perhaps also opponents, we will get to know the local jury and – in a collective effort – put the collected environment in relation to each other.

The aim is to develop an exhibition for the Kunstraum Weikendorf in the summer semester of 2025 that deals with some of the aspects of the site that have been developed. The course and the resulting exhibition is a cooperation between the department of Site-Specific Art / University of Applied Arts and Kunst im Öffentlichen Raum - KOERNOE / Kunstraum Weikendorf.

More information on Kunstraum Weikendorf:
In 2007, Michael Kienzer transformed the town’s old fire station into an exhibition space for contemporary art. Since then, every year two artists have been asked to create an exhibition that is shown for several months. Kienzer selected the artists himself up until 2013, after which a jury consisting of local residents was formed. The jury now chooses two artists every year from a list of nominees compiled by the Public Art Lower Austria panel of experts twice every year.

Examination Modalities

Required are active and regular participation, collaborative thinking, the moderation/or input for one of the units and the development and presentation of a project idea for the Kunstraum Weikendorf which can be realized in the summer semester 2025 as part of the course “Thinking with and learning from Kunstraum Weikendorf II”.
