Design, Design and narrative Media
2024W, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S05063
Description
Who tells a story? How are stories told? What is a story anyway?
The lecture focuses on the question of perspective, of point of view. Regardless of whether it is a story told in words, image or sound, everything has a narrative structure.
Against the background of my own filmmaking, we will also look at all the storytelling elements in film: Dramaturgy theories, screenwriting (characters, dialog), staging, image composition, sound, editing (rhythm, time). We’ll dedicate a unit to the theory of Fe-Male-*-Gaze, as it deals with narrative and visual perspectives and hierarchies.
The aim of the class is to realize that everyone is a storyteller. The theory will be made tangible as a useful tool for your own storytelling: through examples, film clips, discussions, short exercises.
