Introduction to Artistic Strategies - Theory

Mika Maruyama
Institute of Arts and Society, Artistic Strategies
2024W, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04366

Description

In this course the students develop ‘critical thinking’ by engaging with both art theory and art practice —whether in visual art, performance, media art, or other creative approaches— to survey the field of contemporary art. The course explores the current lexicon of art and aesthetics, and emphasizes queer feminist and decolonial perspectives. Students are encouraged to visit cultural institutions, explore self-organized initiatives, and engage with collaborative art practices throughout the course. The course is designed to introduce different methods of artistic expression and to understand the discourse of art today.
