Within the course an overview on scientific methods used for the study of cultural heritage is given, with focus on archaeometry and conservation science. Physical and chemical analytical methods are indeed routinely used for dating, authentication, study of composition, study of degradation, and evaluation of the conservation treatments.
The students will get familiar with the scientific principles behind the main analytical methods, and also with important information for conservators such as invasivity and distructivity, amount of samples, kind of information and limitations of the methods.
