The thesis complements or strengthens the students' individual design philosophy and demonstrates their ability to integrate theory and design research with their own artistic perspective.
The thesis asks students to deepen their knowledge in their area of interest and to engage with scientific research and the relevant theoretical discourses in their area of interest. The topic of the thesis will be self-proposed. Students are expected to discuss the historical, cultural, socio-economic, and political issues that are directly and/or indirectly related to their chosen research topic and to integrate their research topic into contemporary cultural, political, and artistic discourses.
Students will be assisted in the development of their own specific research interests and the supervisory process encourages a reflexive approach to the development of their thesis. Students are encouraged to fully utilize libraries, online resources, and other research institutions. Students are expected to take the initiative in their research, the course leader offers a mentoring and advisory role. Regular one-on-one-tutorials with two mid-progress reviews in group settings.
