Description
The seminar addresses current theories on manual drawing, and examines drawing by hand in times of digitalization.
Value and function of manual drawing will be examined theoretically as well as practically: From a theoretical point of view current studies on drawing will be presented and discussed. There is planned a live skype conversation with one selected expert on the subject of manual drawing.
In a practical sense different settings out from drawing research will be tested. In practical terms this means, that we will enact special conditions while drawing: drawing out from memory, drawing while speaking, drawing by touching, or drawing blindfolded.
The presented theories will be tested out and corroborated in each teaching unit. Experiences and insights out from the above mentioned experiments can help to assess the didactic value and aim of drawing.
For testing out digital graphic tablets, there could be scheduled a short excursion to CG-Shop in Vienna. Optionally we can undertake an "urban sketching" session inside of the Vienna subway system.
The seminar addresses students who are interested on theory and practice of manual drawing. By re-enacting empirical research settings behind the backdrop of our selected theories, the aim is to create a sense for manual drawing and its didactic value.
Many texts are available in english language. Literature will be announced in the initial period of the seminar.
