YOUR PROJECT IS ON THE WAY TO VIENNA

On the way to summer 2024, we are exploring the essence of travelling. Our focus is not on reaching destinations, but on the journey itself. Whether muscle-powered tours such as hiking, cycling, rowing or skiing or electrically powered explorations by public transport - though we want to do away with the conventional methods of travelling by car or plane.

You decide the starting point of your journey! It doesn't matter how long the route is. Whether it's a route in the city or across the Alps. It's your decision whether you want to travel alone or in a group. The only condition is that you are back in Vienna on June 17th, where you and all the other participants in our expedition will meet again here in class to report on our travels and experiences.

The design process in this semester begins with your debriefing of the topic "UNTERWEGS", i.e. with the definition of the framework conditions. Decide for yourself how you want to be on the go. Think about what kind of experiences you want to provoke. And think about an aspect of your journey that you want to experiment and play with. This could be an aid, a tool or part of an infrastructure, but could also be immaterial and be in the realm of social design.

Two excursions are planned during the semester. One to Zurich via Lake Constance and Heilsbronn, where we want to visit the companies FREITAG, ORTLIEB and VAUDE, and one to Hungary, where we will visit the production of LEMMO bicycles. Details will follow via Madeleine and Katrin.

Each student or group can determine the starting point of the journey themselves, whereby the journey from the starting point to Vienna should take a maximum of 5 days in total. All groups will end their journey in Vienna, where the final presentations will take place on 17 and 18 June.
