Design assignment or your own project?
This practice-orientated course not only offers know-how for the professional execution of classic commissions but also self-initiated projects. If designers want to develop comprehensive design solutions beyond pure design, they need a new self-image as entrepreneurs and change makers. Thinking entrepreneurially and knowing the tools for successful realisation is a prerequisite for this. The discussion about the new self-determination and the constantly expanding design options for designers plays a key role in this.

Working relationships
Working in an employment relationship/agencies, independent work for clients, realisation of own design and business ideas (designer = own client = entrepreneur)

Fields of knowledge
Strategic positioning & orientation, company foundation, business and sales models, acquisition, project financing from classic (design) funding to crowdfunding, business planning, service definition, calculation and contracts/legal bases, self-assessment/value

Examination Modalities

The lectures are always combined with short exercises. In the second half of the semester, project examples are worked on in groups. Concrete offers including own calculation are created, presented to imaginary customers and a price negotiation is conducted until the order is placed.

 

Comments

The course is individually tailored to the group and the specific interests of the students and is characterised by practical relevance with concrete case studies and discussion of key situations.
It is also advantageous for students to work independently on their own projects, which can be worked through as concrete cases in class.
