Resistant bodies, performing worlds

Resistance, from resistire, to stand against, to oppose. Resistance as the capacity to oppose the ruling power, the occupying power. Resistance as the measure of the opposition to current flow in an electrical circuit. Resistance as non-conductivity in in an electromagnetic field. Resistance as an opposing force slowing down the pace of matter. Resistance as movement, as static, as counter-active. The tender resistance that clay opposes to the molding hands, the resistant stone against the falling water, there is an ecology of resistances that shape a world. For this class, we will reflect on different notions and practices of resistance from an artistic perspective, all from an eco(feminist) perspective. Matter and performance understood also as narrative and world-shaping, following the words of Donna Haraway: “It matters what matters we use to think other matters with; it matters what stories we tell to tell other stories with; it matters what knots knot knots, what thoughts think thoughts, what descriptions describe descriptions, what ties tie ties. It matters what stories make worlds, what worlds make stories.” From this reflection the students will do practical exercises on their understanding of resistance concerning matter and ecology. These are meant to enhance the students' conceptual and artistic practices.
