Description

This course introduces cross-disciplinary strategies, as well within academia as for finding solutions for problems in general. We will provide collaborative hands-on experiences guided by theoretical and historical knowledge on inter- and trans- and cross-disciplinarity. 

 Therefore, preparative work and active participation in the groupwork-sessions is mandatory.

Within this course…

  • we will discuss various definitions and the meaning of Cross -Disciplinarity to situate various forms of cross-disciplinarity in our academic knowledge culture.
  • we elaborate problem-focused vs. academically oriented cross-disciplinary research.
  • we enroll an easy-to-follow cross-disciplinary research process model.
  • we introduce system mapping to visualize complex real-world problems.
  • participants are engaged actively in cross-disciplinary perspective taking.
  • we will highlight the potential for art-based interventions in different phases of cross-disciplinary research processes.
  • we try to transfer the discussed options for cross-disciplinary strategies to your plans for your projects and thesis within the CDS study program.

Examination Modalities

Summative examination system:

Full participation at the sessions in class is demanded as well as the fulfillment of preparatory homework before each class.

There will be no final exam.
