Description

Ecological design and construction: Climate & circularity & soil & biodiversity

The lecture imparts knowledge at the interface of architecture and ecology. We examine circularity and sustainability in theory and practice. The focus is on circular economy, climate protection and climate adaptation as well as biodiversity and soil protection.Sufficiency, efficiency and resilience are aspects of sustainability that we discuss critically in relation to architecture and urban development.Sufficiency means robustness, durability and adaptability. The efficiency imperative of modernity does not allow any redundancy in materialization.Under the pressure of multiple crises, resilience is replacing the paradigm of efficiency. Cui bono?

Resilience to the consequences of climate change forces us to replan our collective existence. We therefore investigate the socio-cultural conditions of this change: we practice architectural ethnography as a new methodology of social engagement, because we have never been modern (Bruno Latour).

The aim is building concepts with a climate-positive life cycle and urban development as a tool for climate repair: the built environment as a CO2 sink.
