This is a practical, artistic seminar where participants are invited to follow an object of their choice through the semester, trying different methods of observation and making, and culminating in a presentation in the form of an exhibition. The sessions will be held bi-weekly, in English and take place nearby in the studio of the VBKÖ (Austrian Association of Wom*n Artists). 

The seminar is inspired by the late Senegalese artist Issa Samb‘s unique practice, his notion of 'helping objects move' from one place to another and the way that the history of these movements are then carried with the objects. Participants are asked to bring an object (in a broad sense) which has some kind of hold on them and that they want to get to know more intimately. During each session they will try out different ways in which to look at and move their object “through” different materials. I will share strategies from my own artistic practice (drawing, sculpting, performatively activating, finding a fitting site, photographing/video, exhibiting). but participants will be encouraged to bring in, experiment and share their own methods through the course, in order to strengthen and develop their own studio practises.
