Coding as a tool for data explorations

This seminar aims to teach students the basics of coding and how to use code to explore and visualize data, using a practical hands-on approach and encouraging active participation.

It covers data exploration as the first step in data-driven projects, and as a foundation for further learning and analysis. Data exploration involves data visualization to aid in finding patterns or trends. By combining data analysis with creative coding, students can also explore using data in their artistic practice.

The course is designed for beginners with little or no programming experience. It requires only an interest in using coding to explore or visualize data; no prior knowledge is necessary. The course is not suitable for those looking to deepen their programming skills.

Students will learn coding basics using Python and popular libraries for data analysis to examine raw data. They will also create visualizations to discover insights and practice creative coding techniques. At the end of the course, students will critically evaluate the use of AI tools like ChatGPT for coding or visualization assistance.
