Description
Writing alongside art can be both, critical writing about and for one's own artistic practice.
In recent years, there has been a veritable boom in autofictional writing, or rather
a trend towards labeling literature as autofiction and autotheory. In terms of content
books often refer to the visual arts, or their authors work with or in the art world.
In this seminar, we will look at numerous examples of texts by queer-feminist authors
and analyze the genre of the first-person narrator and its connection to art.
We will use the second half of the seminar for exercises and having fun writing our own texts.
With texts by Etel Adnan, Elif Batuman, Moyra Davey, Constance Debré, Marguerite
Duras, Jill Johnston, Ben Lerner, Deborah Levy, Clarice Lispector, Audre Lorde, Eileen Myles,
Lynne Tillman, McKenzie Wark uvm.
Examination Modalities
Regular attendance and participation in the writing exercises.
