2024S, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S05044

This course examines modes of describing one's own artistic work that can result in an artist statement.

When and why such statements are necessary, what length and what information content they must have in order to appear concise and memorable is just as much a part of the joint discussion, as is the handling of text forms from theory, literature and art history, the thoughts and ideas that influence an artistic practice.

The traps, fashions, problems, but also opportunities that can lurk in the formulation of artists' statements are shown through a joint analysis of different types of texts and written relaxation exercises. How the attention economies can be defied and the torments of constant self-promotion can be avoided is the major task of this  bilingual course.
