2024S, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S05042

Description

At the heart of this seminar is an investigation of power relations and visual production. Looking at the intersections between ethnography and photography, we are interested in analyzing how hegemonial visual representations inform how specific people have been and still are represented. Particularly, we are analyzing scopic regimes and how they inform visual production. What might come into view, once we decide to pay attention to the past of photography?

Collective learning through reading, freewriting, and conversing are integral components of the seminar. Questioning the positions and privileges we can inhabit, and therefore active participation in discussions and reading the texts is expected here.

Examination Modalities

The seminar is completed with the presentation of a reflection paper, as well as the submission of the reflection paper.

Comments

The seminar will be held bilingual (German and English). The number of participants is limited to 15 students. If possible, we will visit exhibitions.
