This course, "Artistic Interventions: Decolonizing the Natural History Museum," explores the intersection of decolonization and artistic strategies within the context of the Natural History Museum in Vienna.
Through six sessions, students will critically engage with museum practices, develop their artistic projects, and reflect on the role of institutional critique and activism. The course provides students with both theoretical insights and practical methodologies necessary for artistic intervention in the context of natural history museums.
The examination for this course includes regular attendance (25%), a final essay of 750 words (25%), and a project with presentation (50%). Regular attendance is crucial due to limited capacity. You will be expected to read and come prepared for the sessions.
A course bibliography featuring texts and supplementary materials will be made available shortly before the first session.
