Beschreibung

In the realm of scientific exploration, measurement serves as the cornerstone for understanding the natural world. This interdisciplinary course delves into the fascinating world of measurement, focusing on the most precise measurements in quantum physics, quantum sensing, cosmological measurements, and the philosophical interpretations that arise from these pursuits.

We will begin with an exploration of the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, including wave-particle duality, uncertainty principles, and quantum states. Gain insight into how quantum physics challenges classical notions of measurement and reality. Consequently, we will delve into the cutting-edge field of quantum sensing, quantum interferometry, and quantum metrology. We will thereby address how quantum phenomena are harnessed to achieve unparalleled precision in measurements.

By exploring the vast cosmos and its mysteries, we will investigate how scientists use instruments like telescopes, spectrographs, and gravitational wave detectors to measure distant galaxies, cosmic microwave background radiation, and more.

Finally, we will discuss how measurement not only defines our understanding of nature but also challenges the very foundations of our perception of reality.
