Description

Post-Anthropocentric Design

The RVW ‘Design in Social and Political Context’ introduces students across the design disciplines to international, leading ideas and voices in the field of anthropology, curation, design writing, design history and practice exploring design in contemporary context through lectures delivered via Zoom.

The focus of the SS 2024 lecture series is design in post-anthropocentric context. Design practitioners are confronted with global issues such as climate change and societal transformations that call traditional ways of working and knowing into question. For this series we are going to look at the more-than-human turn in design and how it brings about new practices, ethics, forms of governance and questions for designers.

The speaker series forms the foundation of Q&A discussion, and the potential reflection on students’ own projects in relation to the emerging ideas.

The course is presented in English. The assignment can be submitted in either English or German.
