Institute of Art and Technology, Textile Technology
2024S, Vorlesung und Übungen (VU), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04562
This course is ideal for both individual projects and those who already work independently, providing a comprehensive introduction to textile screen printing. If you are new to this field and not quite sure which project to pursue, we recommend enrolling in our "REPEAT OF A PATTERN" course to gain inspiration and immerse yourself in the world of screen printing at our department.
In personalized instruction, participants will be guided through the essential steps of textile screen printing, including design adaptation and optimal preparation of analog and digital templates. Under expert guidance, theoretical principles for designing repeating patterns on fabric meters and creating artistic screen print originals on textiles and other substrates will be practically explored and applied. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to explore the possibilities of free artistic screen printing and promote experimental use of the medium beyond traditional repeating textile prints. Screen printing formats up to a size of 110 x 130 cm are possible.
Assessment will be based on the presentation and implementation of the design concept, as well as the artistic adaptation of the templates through the screen printing process. Additionally, participants' engagement, as well as the maintenance and correct usage of the workshop and equipment, will be evaluated.
Finally, a photographic documentation of the project in digital form is to be submitted. Please send us 1 to a maximum of 4 photos of your project in a consolidated PDF with your first and last name, the project title, and a brief project description to stephanie.klaura@uni-ak.ac.at.
For organizational reasons, a personal initial consultation is required to clarify the scope of the project. Ideas (preferably drafts/templates and visual materials) can be discussed during this meeting, and further steps and appointments can be arranged. Registration for the initial personal consultation can also be announced in advance via email: stephanie.klaura@uni-ak.ac.at. Initial consultations take place every Tuesday from 11:00 to 15:00 throughout the semester on the ground floor of Salzgries 14.
The course will be conducted throughout the semester, except during lecture-free periods, in the Textile Technology Department daily from 10:00 onwards (Expositur Salzgries 14, ground floor).
