Collecting the ‘Uncollectible’ - Das Sammeln des Nichtsammelbaren

Julienne Lorz
Art Sciences and Art Education, Expanded Museum Studies
2024S, Lecture and Discussion (VD), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S04191

Description

In principle, everything is collectable, but how do you deal with the ephemeral, the oversized or even the immaterial? How to deal with actions, performances or installations that are directly linked to the existence of artists; fragile, technical, digital materials that will (one day) no longer be produced or are subject to technological progress; or flexible formats that can be interpreted in different ways? How can the original spirit of an artwork, or the legacy of artists, be preserved?

These and other topics will be explored using concise examples as well as some guest lectures.

Examination Modalities

Attendance (min 80%), active participation in the discussion and an oral examination at the end of the semester.

Comments

NB: Lectures will be predominantly in German. With regards to guest lectures there may be deviations in terms of timing or location. These will be communicated promptly on base.
