The seminar Sounding Research deals with the significance of listening in art and with listening as an instrument of cognition.

In his text Zum Gehör [Á l'écoute, 2002], the philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy ascribes to listening a moment of tension, a "being tensed towards a possible meaning", which is denied to the passive grasping of meaning through mere hearing.

When we tune into the world through listening, we focus our attention on an experience, an encounter or a place, as a practice in which listening is a creative process of participation in the world.

Together we will explore the extent to which acoustic access to the world can lead to a variety of social experiences, to a becoming-relationship, to entering into a relationship.

The performative phenomenon of the voice plays a special role here, as does the question of how the voice materializes in the various artistic disciplines.

What constitutes the special mediality of the voice?

After all, language is not simply a neutral means of transportation, but the symbolic meaning of the words goes hand in hand with the material, physical side of the voice, the modulation, the breath, the rhythm, the pitch of the voice, the hesitation or pause etc..

The grade for this course is made up of design moments of the seminar such as the continuous, independent formal and artistic questions; individual and collective, oral discussion participation.
